4 Reasons Why You Shouldn't DIY Your Logo

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

Never underestimate the impact a logo can have on how a company is perceived by the general public. Doing it yourself may seem like a way to cut costs - here are 4 reasons why you should consider having a professional design logo!

Cohesiveness:

No matter where it is, your logo or brand mark needs to be cohesive. It will appear in the header and footer of your website (don't forget about the favicon either!), business cards, shop fronts, company vehicles, and in reverse colours or black and white.

Wherever your logo might be, it needs to clearly portray your brand. It must be clear and high quality, following a set of brand guidelines.

Professionalism:

I can takes years to master the softwares professional graphic designers use. These softwares allow us to scale, optimise and export the right files for all branding materials and platforms.

If you’ve designed your logo on canvas - chances are this won’t scale very well on a 1200mm x 631mm signboard.

Colour Theory:

Experienced designers know how to apply colour theory when developing your logo. The best way to describe colour theory is the mix of art and science because we don't just see colours we also feel them. We associate colours with the emotions they evoke.

  • Red: Passion, Love, Anger

  • Orange: Energy, Happiness, Vitality

  • Yellow: Happiness, Hope, Deceit

  • Green: New Beginnings, Abundance, Nature

  • Blue: Calm, Responsible, Sadness

  • Purple: Creativity, Royalty, Wealth

  • Black: Mystery, Elegance, Evil

  • Gray: Moody, Conservative, Formality

  • White: Purity, Cleanliness, Virtue

  • Brown: Nature, Wholesomeness, Dependability

  • Tan or Beige: Conservative, Piety, Dull

  • Cream or Ivory: Calm, Elegant, Purity

Bad Design:

The last thing you want is your potential customers or clients misinterpreting your logo! Hard to read, over complicated, misleading, and failing to set your self apart.
Examples of some very misleading logos below...

You will quickly realise that the cost of a professionally designed logo is worth investing in and can actually help you save money down the road when you take into account everything it can do for your brand.
